Colorado CE REQUIREMENTS

How many CE hours do I need?
 

24 hours every 2 years, 3 hours of which must be in Ethics.

Are there any state specific CE course subject requirements?
 

  • At least 18 of the 24 hours must cover the lines of insurance for which the agent is licensed.
  • Ethics Requirement: All agents are required to complete 3 hours of Ethics every 2 years.
  • Long Term Care Requirement: Individuals who sell long-term care products must complete an initial 16 hours of state approved LTC. Part 1 of the 16 hours shall consist of 8 hours on general LTC, which can be taken online self study or in a classroom, and Part 2 shall consist of 8 hours specific to LTC partnership, which must be taken in a classroom. After the initial 16 hours, agents must complete a 5 hour follow-up taken in a classroom every 2 years thereafter.
  • Flood Requirement: All agents who sell federal flood insurance policies must complete a one-time 3-hour flood insurance course.
  • Annuity Requirement: Agents continuing to sell annuities must complete a one-time 4-hour Annuity course.
  • Claims-Made Requirement: All resident producers engaged in the sale, consultation, or adjustment of claims-made policies must complete a one-time 2-hour state approved course on claims-made policies.

When do I have to complete my CE?
 

The compliance date is the last day of the agent's birth month every 2 years.
Agents born in even years renew in even years.
Agents born in odd years renew in odd years.

What are the state filing fees?
 

There is no state filing fee in Colorado.

What are the allowed methods of completing CE?
 

Self-Study, Online, Classroom

What are the study requirements for my courses?
 

Agents should read the course material prior to taking the final exam.

Do the exams require monitoring?
 

Yes, self-study exams must be monitored. Your Qualified Proctor must be:
A disinterested third party, someone who is not a relative or business associate.

Can excess hours be carried over to the next renewal?
 

Up to 12 hours may be carried over to the next renewal as long as they were earned in the 120 days prior to the renewal date. Ethics hours carried forward will be counted as General.

Can I repeat a course I've already taken?
 

Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in each two-year period.

Are all agents required to complete CE?
 

The following exemptions are available:

  • First time licensees have until their second continuation cycle to comply; and,
  • Producers licensed to only write one or more of the following authorities are exempt:
    • Travel Ticket Selling
    • Bail Bonding
    • Title
    • Limited Lines Credit
    • Crop Hail

When will my course completions be reported?
 

Completions reported daily Monday through Friday excluding holidays.
