Georgia CE REQUIREMENTS

How many CE hours do I need?
 

  • If licensed less than 20 years: 30 CE credit hours are required each year, 6 hours of which must be in Ethics.
  • If licensed 20 years or more: 20 CE credit hours are required each year, 6 hours of which must be in Ethics.
  • Pre-licensing course can be used as first years CE credit. Should submit pre-licensing certificate with renewal.

Are there any state specific CE course subject requirements?
 

  • Courses must be approved for lines of insurance for which license is held.
  • Ethics Requirement: All agents are required to complete 6 hours of Ethics every year.
  • Long Term Care Requirement: Individuals who sell long-term care products must complete an initial 8 hours of state approved LTC, then a 4 hour follow-up every 2 years thereafter.
  • Flood Requirement: Agents licensed in the property and casualty line of authority that will be selling through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) must complete a one time three (3) hour course related to the NFIP.

When do I have to complete my CE?
 

The compliance date is December 31st of each year.

What are the state filing fees?
 

There is no state filing fee in Georgia.

What are the allowed methods of completing CE?
 

Self-Study, Online, Classroom

What are the study requirements for my courses?
 

Agents should read the course material prior to taking the final exam.

Do the exams require monitoring?
 

Yes, self-study exams must be monitored. Your Qualified Proctor must be:
A disinterested third party, someone who is not a relative or business associate.

Can excess hours be carried over to the next renewal?
 

Credit for Continuing Education earned in one calendar year in excess of your requirement may be carried forward to the next calendar year but it cannot be more than 50% of your requirement. Excess Ethics hours will carryover as general credit only.

Can I repeat a course I've already taken?
 

Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in each two-year period.

Exception: Ethics courses may be repeated each year.

Are all agents required to complete CE?
 

The following exemptions are available:

  • For newly licensed producers the pre-licensing course can be used to satisfy the first renewal cycle CE requirement. Producers must submit their pre-licensing certificate with renewal as proof of CE compliance.
  • Nonresident adjusters.

When will my course completions be reported?
 

Completions reported daily Monday through Friday excluding holidays.
