Massachusetts CE REQUIREMENTS

How many CE hours do I need?
 

60 hours during the first 36 months of licensure; 45 hours every 3 years thereafter.

Are there any state specific CE course subject requirements?
 

  • At least one credit hour should be completed in a course approved for lines of insurance for which license is held.
  • Flood Requirement: All agents who sell federal flood insurance policies must complete a one-time 3-hour flood insurance course.

When do I have to complete my CE?
 

Compliance date is the license issuance date every 3 years.

What are the state filing fees?
 

There is no state filing fee in Massachusetts.

What are the allowed methods of completing CE?
 

Self-Study, Online, Classroom

Agents should read the course material prior to taking the final exam.

Yes, self-study exams must be monitored. Your Qualified Proctor must be:

Can I repeat a course I've already taken?
 

Are all agents required to complete CE?
 

  • Individuals licensed in Massachusetts prior to 4/5/83, except for those persons who, although licensed prior to 4/5/83, amended their licenses after that date by passing an insurance exam for an additional line of insurance, and those persons who were unlicensed for more than a year immediately prior to 4/5/83.
  • Individuals who are auto club agents, travel and accident baggage agents, licensed insurance advisors and/or fraternal agents.

When will my course completions be reported?
 

Agents keep their original certificate(s) for their records in the event of an audit by the state.
