Montana CE REQUIREMENTS

How many CE hours do I need?
 

  • 24 hours every 2 years, 1 hour of which must be in Montana Insurance Statutes.
  • Agents who hold only a limited lines credit license must complete 5 hours every 2 years.

Are there any state specific CE course subject requirements?
 

  • Montana Insurance Statutes Requirement: All agents are required to complete 1 hour of Montana Insurance Statutes every 2 years.
  • Agents licensed only for limited lines credit must complete 5 hours using only courses approved in the subject areas of credit life/disability insurance, insurance law and/or ethics.

When do I have to complete my CE?
 

The compliance date is the first day of the agent's birth month, every 2 years.
Agents born in odd-numbered years renew in odd-numbered years.
Agents born in even-numbered years renew in even-numbered years.

What are the state filing fees?
 

There is no state filing fee in Montana.

What are the allowed methods of completing CE?
 

Self-Study, Online, Classroom

What are the study requirements for my courses?
 

Agents should read the course material prior to taking the final exam.

Do the exams require monitoring?
 

Yes, self-study exams must be monitored. Your Qualified Proctor must be:
A disinterested third party, someone who is not a relative or business associate.

Can excess hours be carried over to the next renewal?
 

Carryover of excess hours is not allowed in Montana.

Can I repeat a course I've already taken?
 

Are all agents required to complete CE?
