North Carolina CE REQUIREMENTS

How many CE hours do I need?
 

24 hours every 2 years, 3 hours of which must be in Ethics.

Are there any state specific CE course subject requirements?
 

  • Agents can take courses from any license type to complete their CE.
  • Ethics Requirement: All agents are required to complete 3 hours of Ethics every 2 years.
  • Long Term Care Requirement: Individuals who sell long-term care products must complete an initial 8 hours of state approved LTC, then a 4 hour follow-up each renewal thereafter.
  • Flood Requirement: All agents who sell federal flood insurance policies must complete 3 hours of flood insurance every 4 years.

When do I have to complete my CE?
 

  • Producers: The compliance date is the last day of the agent's birth month every 2 years.
    Agents born in even years renew in even years.
    Agents born in odd years renew in odd years.

  • Public Adjusters: The compliance date is 3/31 annually.

    If you have not met all the renewal requirements by the end of your CE compliance date, you cannot sell, solicit or negotiate insurance.

    Licensees who fail to meet their continuing education requirements by the end of their compliance period and have not received an extension or exemption will have their license(s) canceled for CE noncompliance.

What are the state filing fees?
 

There is a filing fee of $1.65 per CE credit hour.

What are the allowed methods of completing CE?
 

Self-Study, Online, Classroom

What are the study requirements for my courses?
 

Agents must read the course material prior to taking the final exam.

Do the exams require monitoring?
 

Noble's Online self-study exams do not require monitoring. The final exam must be closed book, access to the course material is restricted until the exam has been graded.
Noble's Correspondence (paper) self-study exams must be monitored. Your Qualified Proctor must be: A disinterested third party, someone who is not a relative or business associate.

Can excess hours be carried over to the next renewal?
 

  • Excess hours will carry forward to the next renewal period. Excess hours in Ethics or Flood insurance will carry forward as general credit.
  • Credit hours that are carried over from a previous compliance period may be taken again in the next compliance period, and WILL NOT be considered a duplicate.

Can I repeat a course I've already taken?
 

Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in each renewal.

Are all agents required to complete CE?
 

The following exemptions are available:

  • Licensee's who were previously granted an exemption from CE based on being at least 65 years of age or being continuously licensed in the line of insurance for at least 25 years, will continue to be exempt from completing all of the CE requirements except for ethics and/or flood.
  • Only those licensees who are unable to comply with continuing education requirements due to military service or long-term medical disability may request a waiver for continuing education requirements. These are granted on a case-by-case basis.
  • The licensee is already exempt for one authority in which he or she is licensed. If this is true, the licensee is exempt from completing all of the CE requirements except for ethics and/or flood.
  • Nonresident adjusters who live in a state where the licensee is licensed for the same type of adjuster license held in North Carolina, or who are qualified for licensure in North Carolina due to adopting a state other than North Carolina for adjuster licensing purposes, are required to be in good standing with their home state in order to be exempt from the North Carolina CE requirements.
  • Nonresident producers are not required to completed the North Carolina CE requirements as long as the producer is in good standing with his or her home state.

When will my course completions be reported?
 

Completions reported daily Monday through Friday excluding holidays.
