What are Alabama Insurance Continuing Education requirements?

Alabama Insurance Continuing Education requirements are 24 hours every 2 years consisting of the following:
  • Ethics: 3 hours.
  • Before you sell...
    • Annuity: One-time 4 hours.
    • Long Term Care: Initial 8 hours, thereafter 4 hours.
    • Flood: One-time 3 hours.
  • Electives:
    • Service Representatives: may take any course approved for CE credit.
    • Adjusters and Title agents: may take any course approved for P&C credit.

Agents born in odd years renew in odd years.
What are the state filing fees?
The state has imposed a mandatory filing fee of $1.00 per CE credit hour.
What are the study requirements for my courses?
Agents must read the course material prior to taking the final exam.
Do the exams require monitoring?
Yes, self-study exams must be monitored. Your Qualified Proctor must be:
A disinterested third party, someone who is not a relative or business associate.

If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
Can excess hours be carried over to the next renewal?
Excess hours cannot be carried over to the next renewal.
Can I repeat a course I've already taken?
Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in each renewal.
Are all agents required to complete CE?
The following exemptions are available:
  • Individuals licensed for less than 12 months at the time of their first renewal.
  • Non-resident producers in good standing with their home states.
  • Producers licensed in Alabama for 15 years and who are at least 60 years of age.
When will my course completions be reported?
Completions reported daily Monday through Friday excluding holidays.
How long do I have to complete my courses?
Access to your courses will expire 12 months from the date of purchase.
