What are Colorado Insurance Continuing Education requirements?

Colorado Insurance Continuing Education requirements are 24 credit hours every 2 years consisting of the following:
  • Ethics: 3 hours (All agents).
  • Homeowners Insurance Coverage: 3 hours (P&C agents).
  • Before you sell...
    • Long Term Care: Initial 16 hours (8 hours of which must be taken in a classroom.), thereafter 5 hours each renewal which must be taken in a classroom.
    • Flood: One-time 3 hours.
    • Annuity: One-time 4 hours.
  • Electives: Any remaining hours at least 18 of which must be approved for your license type.

What are the allowed methods of completing CE?
Self-Study, Online, Classroom
What are the study requirements for my courses?
Agents should read the course material prior to taking the final exam.
Do the exams require monitoring?
Yes, self-study exams must be monitored. Your Qualified Proctor must be:
A disinterested third party, someone who is not a relative or business associate.

If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.
Can excess hours be carried over to the next renewal?
Up to 12 hours may be carried over to the next renewal as long as they were earned in the 120 days prior to the renewal date. Ethics hours carried forward will be counted as General.
Can I repeat a course I've already taken?
You cannot repeat the same course within 2 years from the last completion date.
What are the non-resident requirements?
Non-resident licensees who comply with the CE requirements of their resident state are exempt from Colorado CE.

Non-resident agents must comply with the LTC training requirement for this state or another state which meets the NAIC LTC Model training outline.

Non-residents who satisfy the Annuity training requirements of another state that are similar to Colorado’s law will be deemed compliant for Colorado’s requirement.
Are all agents required to complete CE?
The following exemptions are available:
  • First time licensees have until their second continuation cycle to comply; and,
  • Producers licensed to only write one or more of the following authorities are exempt:
    • Travel Ticket Selling
    • Bail Bonding
    • Title
    • Limited Lines Credit
    • Crop Hail
When will my course completions be reported?
Completions for online courses are reported immediately 24/7.
Completions for shipped courses are reported daily. (Monday through Friday)
You will receive an email immediately after your course has been reported.
How long do I have to complete my courses?
Access to your courses will expire 12 months from the date of purchase.
