Yes, self-study exams must be monitored. Your Qualified Proctor must be:
A disinterested third party, someone who is not a relative or business associate.
If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in each renewal.

What are the non-resident requirements?
A non-resident producer who resides in a state or district having a continuing education requirement for insurance producers is exempt from Iowa CE requirements. Non-resident agents must comply with the LTC training for this state or another state which meets the NAIC LTC Model training outline.
Non-residents who satisfy the Annuity training requirements of another state that are similar to Iowa’s law will be deemed compliant for Iowa’s requirement.

The following exemptions are available:
- Attorneys licensed to sell insurance may be exempted upon submission of proof that they have complied with a continuing legal education requirement.
- Individuals who are on extended active duty with the U.S. Armed Forces.
- Individuals licensed for credit insurance only.
- Individuals licensed for crop insurance only.
