Arkansas CE requirements
How many CE hours do Arkansas insurance agents need?
Arkansas resident producers with life, accident and health or sickness, property, casualty, variable products, or personal lines authority must complete 24 approved hours, including 3 ethics, each two-year license cycle unless exempt.
Which Arkansas CE requirement applies to me?
Arkansas CE requirements by license
| Arkansas resident license | Total CE | Required category or format |
|---|---|---|
| Life, health, property, casualty, personal lines, or variable products producer | 24 hours / 2 years | 3 ethics hours included |
| Nonexempt adjuster | 24 hours / 2 years | 3 ethics hours included |
| Title insurance agent | 6 hours / year | 1 ethics hour included; title-approved courses |
| Both producer and adjuster | Both license requirements | Verify approved credit and compliance for each license |
Producer and adjuster requirements are governed by 23 CAR Part 18, formerly Rule 50. Title-agent CE is governed by 23 CAR Part 204, formerly Rule 87. The standard producer requirement does not replace the title-agent requirement.
Who qualifies for an Arkansas CE exemption?
Exemptions include specified licenses not requiring an examination, certain company-employed or limited adjusters, qualifying nonresidents, consultants, and active-duty military service. A resident producer licensed before July 1, 2003 may qualify at age 60 or after 15 consecutive licensed years, subject to the rule’s exclusions and lapse restrictions. These grandfathered exemptions do not apply to later resident licensees or title agents. Document the exemption with AID rather than assuming eligibility.

Deadline and renewal cycle
When is Arkansas insurance CE due?
Complete producer or adjuster CE on or before the birthday in the two-year renewal year. Arkansas uses the birth date, not the last day of the birth month. Title-agent CE is due annually on or before the birthday.
Confirm the renewal year on the official license record. For newer licenses, the two-year cycle is not determined solely by whether the birth year is odd or even.
Complete courses early enough for the provider’s roster to be accepted and the transcript updated. The rule requires completion reporting within 10 days; this reporting period does not extend the licensee’s deadline.
Course completion, payment of any CE filing fee, and license renewal are distinct compliance steps. Part 18 specifies a $20 biennial CE filing fee for nonexempt resident producers and adjusters, paid with the required renewal fees.

Official record
How do I check my Arkansas CE transcript or status?
Open AID’s Licensing page and select License Management. SBS License Manager provides the license record and educational transcript. Review the current compliance period and required categories for each license.
-
1
Correct license and period
Confirm the active license record, CE period, and compliance or review date.
-
2
Total posted credit
Compare the posted hours with your requirement after any valid exemption, reduction, or carryover.
-
3
Required categories
Check ethics, law update, flood, delivery method, or product-specific categories separately.
-
4
Completion history
Look for missing courses, duplicate or zero credit, incorrect dates, and misclassified completions.
What should I do if completed credit is missing?
Reporting timing. Arkansas requires the provider to electronically report completed courses within 10 days. Contact the provider if a course is absent, rejected, or assigned to the wrong license or credit category.
1. Compare the course number, completion date, license number or NPN, and awarded category with the completion record.
2. Ask the course provider to confirm submission and correct a missing or rejected roster. Include the completion certificate or confirmation.
3. Recheck the official transcript after the correction. Contact the licensing authority if the provider confirms acceptance but the record remains incorrect.

Credits and eligibility
What courses count toward Arkansas insurance CE?
Arkansas CE credit is awarded only for a state-approved course completed through a state-approved provider. The course must match the required credit category and applicable license period.
- Can I repeat a course for additional credit?
- No, not within two years. Arkansas prohibits repeating a CE course within a two-year period for credit.
- Can excess CE hours carry over?
- Yes. Excess hours may carry to the immediately following biennial period only. Excess ethics hours carry as general credit, not ethics credit.
- Must I complete new ethics hours each cycle?
- Yes. The 3-hour ethics requirement must be satisfied for the current producer or adjuster period. Carried ethics hours count only as general credit.
- Does producer CE also establish adjuster compliance?
- Not automatically. Part 18 requires a licensee holding both producer and adjuster licenses to meet the requirements of both licenses. Verify course eligibility and posted compliance for each.
- Are completion certificates filed by the licensee?
- No. The provider files the required course roster. A completion certificate or other evidence may be requested from the provider for personal records.

Course format
Can Arkansas insurance CE be completed online?
Yes. Arkansas permits approved internet and correspondence courses and approved interactive distance learning. Course approval and the required identity verification or proctor documentation determine eligibility.
Internet and correspondence courses
An examination is required. Part 18 permits a proctored exam or an approved licensee attestation/certification verifying who completed the course and exam. Follow the course’s approved procedure.
Interactive distance learning
Approved live distance learning requires interactivity, written materials, verified attendance, and technical assistance. A recorded presentation is not automatically an approved live course.
When a proctor is required, the proctor cannot have a family or financial relationship with the licensee. Return all required exam and proctor documentation to the provider; an unfinished affidavit can prevent credit reporting.

Product-specific training
What specialty training do Arkansas insurance agents need?
Product training applies to the products sold, not every license holder. Complete required initial training before conducting the applicable business and track recurring training separately from license renewal.
| Training | Who needs it? | Hours and frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Annuity best interest | Producers selling annuities | 4 hours, one time Use current state-approved training. Prior suitability certification must also meet the best-interest update. Insurer product training remains required. |
| Long-term care | Producers selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance | 8 hours initial; 4 hours every 24 months The training includes Arkansas Partnership and Medicaid topics. Insurers must verify training before permitting LTC business. |
| NFIP flood | Agents selling National Flood Insurance Program coverage | At least 3 hours of flood training Complete flood-specific training consistent with FEMA’s agent-training standard and applicable state and insurer requirements. |
A product-training course can also provide regular CE credit when it has the required state approval. A general-credit course with a similar title does not establish product certification. Retain the completion record and provide it to the insurer when required.

Arkansas insurance continuing education FAQ
How many CE hours do Arkansas title agents need?
6 approved hours annually, including 1 ethics hour, on or before the birthday. Newly licensed title agents are exempt until licensed for one full year before renewal.
Is Arkansas insurance CE due at the end of the birth month?
No. Nonexempt producers and adjusters must complete CE on or before the birthday in the applicable renewal year.

No. The age-based exemption requires resident producer licensing before July 1, 2003 and satisfaction of the other rule conditions. It is unavailable to later resident licensees and title agents.
Does an Arkansas CE certificate renew the license?
No. Course credit and license renewal are separate. Submit the required renewal and fees and confirm the updated official license record.
