Delaware CE requirements
How many CE hours do Delaware insurance agents need?
Delaware resident producers generally need 24 approved hours per biennium, including 3 ethics hours. Adjusters, public adjusters, and resident fraternal representatives have a separate 12-hour requirement, including 3 ethics.
Which Delaware CE requirement applies to me?
Delaware CE requirements by license
| Delaware resident license | Total CE | Required category or format |
|---|---|---|
| Resident producer | 24 hours / biennium | 3 ethics hours included |
| Resident or nonresident adjuster/public adjuster | 12 hours / biennium | 3 ethics hours included |
| Resident fraternal representative | 12 hours / biennium | 3 ethics hours included |
| Qualifying experience/designation reduction | 12 credits granted toward applicable total | Does not satisfy the required 3 ethics hours |
Delaware’s nonresident producer CE exemption does not create a blanket nonresident adjuster exemption. Apply the requirement to the specific license and check the official compliance record.
Who qualifies for an exemption or credit reduction?
Specified limited-line-only licenses are exempt, including consumer credit, title, crop-hail, surety, car rental, and preneed funeral. Adjusters limited solely to surety or marine and transportation claims also qualify. The CE FAQ grants 12 credits for 25 continuous licensed years before the biennium starts or a listed qualifying designation; these credits do not satisfy ethics. Listed designations include AAI, CEBS, ChFC, CFP, CIC, CLU, CPCU, FLMI, FSPA, and RHU.

Deadline and renewal cycle
When is Delaware insurance CE due?
The resident producer CE biennium runs from March 1 through the last day of February in the next even-numbered year. The current period is March 1, 2026–February 29, 2028. Complete the required credit before the applicable renewal deadline.
Delaware’s deadline is fixed by the licensing cycle, not the producer’s birthday. February has 29 days in 2028.
The most recent resident renewal notice required compliant CE and the renewal fee before renewal could be completed. Check the next DOI notice for the 2028 renewal window and fees.
For an adjuster, public adjuster, or other license, confirm the specific license expiration and compliance period in the state record rather than using the producer deadline automatically.

How do I check my Delaware CE transcript or status?
Open Delaware DOI’s licensing page and use its CE Transcript and License lookup links. In SBS, select Delaware and check the applicable license, biennium, ethics, general hours, and any granted reduction.
-
1
Correct license and period
Confirm the active license record, CE period, and compliance or review date.
-
2
Total posted credit
Compare the posted hours with your requirement after any valid exemption, reduction, or carryover.
-
3
Required categories
Check ethics, law update, flood, delivery method, or product-specific categories separately.
-
4
Completion history
Look for missing courses, duplicate or zero credit, incorrect dates, and misclassified completions.
What should I do if completed credit is missing?
Reporting timing. The approved provider reports course completions. Confirm posted credit in the official SBS transcript before renewal; an exam result or certificate alone does not establish recorded compliance.
1. Compare the course number, completion date, license number or NPN, and awarded category with the completion record.
2. Ask the course provider to confirm submission and correct a missing or rejected roster. Include the completion certificate or confirmation.
3. Recheck the official transcript after the correction. Contact the licensing authority if the provider confirms acceptance but the record remains incorrect.

Credits and eligibility
What courses count toward Delaware insurance CE?
Delaware CE credit is awarded only for a state-approved course completed through a state-approved provider. The course must match the required credit category and applicable license period.
- Can extra hours carry over?
- Yes. Delaware permits up to 5 excess hours to carry to the next biennium. Carried hours do not satisfy the next period’s ethics requirement.
- Does 25 years of licensing eliminate all CE?
- No. The qualifying continuous-licensing provision grants 12 credits toward the applicable total. Required ethics must still be completed.
- Can a designation satisfy ethics?
- No. The 12-credit reduction for a qualifying listed designation does not apply to the required 3 ethics hours.
- Can product-training hours count toward CE?
- Yes, when the course has the necessary Delaware CE approval. Required LTC and flood hours are included within the applicable general-credit total, not automatically added to it.
- Are all nonresident licenses CE-exempt?
- No. Nonresident producers, surplus lines producers, and fraternal representatives are exempt from standard Delaware CE. Nonresident adjusters and public adjusters generally need 12 hours, including 3 ethics.

Course format
Can Delaware insurance CE be completed online?
Yes. Delaware accepts state-approved courses through approved providers. Select the appropriate Delaware course approval and category and complete its required examination or attendance conditions.
Approved online courses
Confirm the course’s Delaware credit hours and category before enrollment. Follow its approved completion instructions.
Noble online examinations
Noble lists its Delaware online courses with open-book examinations. Check the selected course’s current instructions; this is not a rule for every provider’s examination.
Completion and credit
Finish the full approved course and examination where required. Retain the completion record and verify provider-reported credit on SBS.
Do not use another state’s passing score or proctoring procedure as a Delaware requirement. Check the current approved course instructions and contact the provider before testing if a condition is unclear.

Product-specific training
What specialty training do Delaware insurance agents need?
Product training applies to the products sold, not every license holder. Complete required initial training before conducting the applicable business and track recurring training separately from license renewal.
| Training | Who needs it? | Hours and frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Annuity training | Resident and nonresident producers selling annuities | 4 hours, one time Delaware’s renewal notice identifies the one-time annuity course. Confirm current course acceptance and insurer product-training requirements before annuity business. |
| Long-term care | Health producers who solicit LTC insurance | 3 Delaware-specific hours per biennium The CE FAQ requires training specific to Delaware LTC laws and regulations within general CE. Confirm any additional Partnership certification separately. |
| Flood insurance CE | Producers who solicit flood insurance | 2 hours per biennium Delaware requires 2 approved flood/NFIP hours within general CE. Agents selling NFIP policies must also meet FEMA’s basic flood-training standard of at least 3 hours. |
A product-training course can also provide regular CE credit when it has the required state approval. A general-credit course with a similar title does not establish product certification. Retain the completion record and provide it to the insurer when required.
