Indiana CE requirements
How many CE hours do Indiana insurance agents need?
Indiana resident producers subject to CE need 24 approved hours every two years. The 3-hour ethics requirement applies to producers holding life and/or accident and health authority, not property and casualty-only producers.
Which Indiana CE requirement applies to me?
Indiana CE requirements by license
| Indiana license type | Total CE | Required category or format |
|---|---|---|
| Resident producer with life and/or accident and health authority | 24 hours / 2 years | 3 ethics hours included |
| Resident property, casualty, or personal lines-only producer | 24 hours / 2 years | No separate 3-hour ethics mandate |
| Title-only producer | 7 hours / 2 years | Approved title credit; specified title-topic requirements apply |
| Title producer with other authority subject to CE | 24 hours / 2 years | 7 title hours within the total; life/health ethics applies if held |
| Resident or Indiana DHS independent adjuster | 24 hours / 2 years | Approved adjuster CE; no separate 3-hour ethics mandate |
| Public adjuster, consultant, or surplus lines license | No separate CE requirement | Underlying producer requirements can still apply |
Title CE must include at least 4 hours in a structured setting or comparable self-study covering the specified title topics, including ethical marketing, underwriting, escrow, and RESPA. A title-licensed attorney may use qualifying attorney education under DOI’s documentation procedure.
Who is exempt from Indiana producer CE?
Qualifying nonresident producers satisfy CE through their home state. Indiana lists several limited authorities, including credit, crop, and funeral director or prearranged funeral authority, as CE-exempt. Consultants and public adjusters have no CE requirement. Other classes, such as bail agents and navigators, have separate requirements rather than the standard producer total.

Deadline and renewal cycle
When is Indiana insurance CE due?
Indiana producer CE is generally due by the last day of the birth month every two years. Complete the applicable hours and verify the official transcript before renewing the license.
Renewal notices are generally sent about 90 days before expiration. Use the recorded expiration date, not an assumed odd/even cycle or the date a course was purchased.
Independent adjusters and title producers generally follow the birth-month biennial schedule. Public adjusters renew annually by December 31 and have no CE requirement.
Current temporary notice: DOI’s August 2026 licensing notice announces a 60-day emergency extension for license renewal and producer CE under Bulletin 280. Confirm its applicability and adjusted deadline directly with DOI; do not treat it as a permanent grace period.

Official record
How do I check my Indiana CE transcript or status?
Open Indiana’s Sircon portal and select the CE transcript service. Verify the current period, course number, total hours, and any required ethics or title credit before renewal.
-
1
Correct license and period
Confirm the active license record, CE period, and compliance or review date.
-
2
Total posted credit
Compare the posted hours with your requirement after any valid exemption, reduction, or carryover.
-
3
Required categories
Check ethics, law update, flood, delivery method, or product-specific categories separately.
-
4
Completion history
Look for missing courses, duplicate or zero credit, incorrect dates, and misclassified completions.
What should I do if completed credit is missing?
Reporting timing. Indiana requires approved providers to report completions to Sircon within 14 days. Allow time for posting and correct any course or category discrepancy before submitting renewal.
1. Compare the course number, completion date, license number or NPN, and credit category with the completion certificate.
2. Ask the course provider to confirm submission and correct any missing or rejected roster. Include the completion record.
3. Recheck the official transcript. Contact the licensing authority if the provider confirms acceptance but the record remains incorrect.

Credits and eligibility
What courses count toward Indiana insurance CE?
Indiana CE credit is awarded only for a state-approved course completed through a state-approved provider. The course must match the required credit category and applicable license period.
- Can I repeat a course for additional credit?
- No. Indiana permits credit for a particular course only once in the same CE reporting period.
- Can extra CE hours carry over?
- No. Indiana DOI’s producer CE FAQs and provider guidelines state that excess CE hours do not carry to the next reporting period.
- Must courses match my line of authority?
- No. Indiana permits approved producer CE regardless of the held authority. Required life/health ethics, title credit, and product-training qualifications still apply.
- Do multiple producer lines require separate 24-hour totals?
- No. Indiana’s applicable 24-hour producer total covers the held producer authorities. Include required ethics and title hours within that total.
- Does prelicensing education count as Indiana CE?
- No. Indiana DOI states that prelicensing education does not count toward the producer CE requirement.

Course format
Can Indiana insurance CE be completed online?
Yes. Indiana accepts approved online and self-study CE. Self-study credit requires a closed-book, proctored final examination with a passing score of at least 70%.
Closed-book final examination
Complete the approved exam without assistance or course materials and earn at least 70%. Submit the required student and witness affidavit to the provider.
Licensed insurance-agent proctor
Indiana’s standard self-study procedure uses another licensed insurance producer as the examination witness. The witness verifies independent, closed-book completion.
The Indiana-specific 7-hour LTC Partnership course cannot be completed as self-study. It requires classroom instruction or an approved interactive webinar.

Product-specific training
What specialty training do Indiana insurance agents need?
Product-specific training is required only for the applicable business. Complete initial training before conducting that business and track recurring training separately from the license expiration date.
| Training | Who needs it? | Hours and frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Annuity best interest | Life producers selling annuities | 4 hours, one time Complete current best-interest training before selling. Indiana’s rule took effect July 1, 2024; prior suitability training required the applicable best-interest update. |
| Long-term care | Producers marketing, selling, or soliciting LTC, including riders | 8 hours initial; at least 5 hours each renewal period The 5-hour ongoing requirement may be met through multiple approved LTC courses. Missing the ongoing requirement requires repeating the 8-hour basic course. |
| Indiana LTC Partnership | Resident and nonresident producers selling Indiana Partnership policies | 7 hours, Indiana-specific This separate one-time course requires classroom or interactive webinar delivery. Another state’s Partnership course or a generic 4-hour course does not substitute. |
| NFIP flood | Agents selling NFIP policies | At least 3 hours of basic flood training Retain the training record. Verify Indiana CE approval if applying the course to the regular producer total. |
Product training counts toward regular CE only when the course also has the applicable state CE approval. A similarly named general-credit course does not establish product certification. Retain certificates for insurer verification.

Common compliance mistakes to avoid
- Applying the life/health ethics mandate to a P&C-only license.
- Omitting required title credit from a combined producer license.
- Taking a generic Partnership self-study course instead of Indiana’s 7-hour course.
- Treating the temporary 2026 emergency extension as a permanent renewal rule.
