Missouri CE requirements
How many CE hours do Missouri insurance agents need?
Missouri bases the course category on the authority held. Producers with both life/health and property/casualty authority may combine eligible courses to reach the 16-hour total.
Which Missouri CE requirement applies to me?
Missouri CE requirements by license
| Missouri license type | Total CE | Required category or format |
|---|---|---|
| Life and/or health producer | 16 hours / 2 years | 3 ethics; eligible life/health, general, and ethics credit |
| Property and/or casualty producer | 16 hours / 2 years | 3 ethics; eligible property/casualty, general, and ethics credit |
| Life/health and property/casualty producer | 16 hours / 2 years | 3 ethics; eligible combination |
| Title producer | 8 hours / 2 years | Approved title-insurance credit |
Variable life/annuity, credit, crop, travel, surplus-lines, and other limited authorities may not create a separate ordinary CE requirement. If another CE-subject authority is held, that authority controls.
Which Missouri authorities do not require ordinary producer CE?
NIPR identifies variable life and variable annuity, credit, crop, and travel as non-CE authorities when held without another CE-subject authority. Surplus lines, public adjuster, public-adjuster solicitor, and specified limited licenses are also listed without ordinary CE. Product training may still apply.

Deadline and renewal cycle
When is Missouri insurance CE due?
Complete the assigned Missouri CE before submitting renewal and before the expiration date shown on the license. Courses must be completed during the biennium to which they will be applied.
The electronic renewal window opens 90 days before expiration.
A producer who misses expiration may late-renew for up to one year, with a $25 state late fee for each month. The license is not active merely because late renewal remains available.
Allow time for the provider’s electronic roster and renewal-system updates.

Official record
How do I check my Missouri CE transcript or status?
Use Missouri’s SBS record to check the current biennium, applied course categories, ethics hours, and remaining credit before filing renewal.
-
1
Correct license and period
Confirm the active license record, CE period, and compliance or review date.
-
2
Total posted credit
Compare the posted hours with your requirement after any valid exemption, reduction, or carryover.
-
3
Required categories
Check ethics, law update, flood, delivery method, or product-specific categories separately.
-
4
Completion history
Look for missing courses, duplicate or zero credit, incorrect dates, and misclassified completions.
What should I do if completed credit is missing?
Reporting timing. Missouri providers report course completions electronically. Verify the SBS record rather than treating a course certificate as renewal confirmation.
1. Match the course number, completion date, license number or NPN, and credit category to the completion certificate.
2. Ask the provider to confirm the roster submission and correct a missing or rejected completion.
3. Recheck the official transcript. Contact the licensing authority if an accepted completion remains missing or incorrect.
Credits and eligibility
What courses count toward Missouri insurance CE?
Missouri CE credit is awarded only for a state-approved course completed through a state-approved provider. The course must match the required credit category and applicable license period.
- Can I repeat a Missouri course for additional credit?
- No. Missouri does not award duplicate credit for the same course during one renewal period.
- Can extra Missouri CE hours carry over?
- Excess eligible hours may be applied only to the immediately following two-year period. Complete the new period’s required ethics hours separately.
- Must Missouri courses match my authority?
- Yes. Life/health and property/casualty producers must use credit eligible for their authority, except for applicable general and ethics credit.
- Can professional association membership earn Missouri CE?
- Yes. Qualifying active membership in an approved insurance association may earn up to 4 CE hours under Missouri law and rule.
- Which completion date determines the period?
- Missouri applies a course to the biennium in which the producer completes it, subject to the limited carryover rule for excess eligible hours.

Course format
Can Missouri insurance CE be completed online?
Missouri accepts approved online and self-study courses. Credit requires successful completion under the course’s approved assessment and identity-verification method.
Online self-study
Complete the approved content and required assessment. Follow the provider’s current examination and identity instructions.
Classroom and live courses
Meet the approved attendance and participation requirements for the awarded hours.
Category check
Verify life/health, property/casualty, title, general, ethics, or product-training approval before enrolling.
Online availability does not remove line-of-authority categories or the rule against duplicate course credit within the renewal period.

Product-specific training
What specialty training do Missouri insurance agents need?
Product-specific training applies only to the relevant business. Complete initial training before selling the product and track recurring training separately.
| Training | Who needs it? | Hours and frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Annuity | Producers selling annuities | 4 initial hours Complete approved training before annuity business; insurer product training is separate. |
| Long-term care | Producers selling LTC insurance | 8 initial hours; 4 hours each 2-year period Recurring LTC training must remain current for continued LTC sales. |
| NFIP flood | Producers selling federal flood insurance | 3 initial hours Complete training meeting the federal NFIP standard. |
A product-training course counts toward ordinary CE only when it also carries the applicable state CE approval. Retain the completion certificate for insurer verification.

No. A title producer completes 8 approved title-insurance hours during the two-year license period.
