New Mexico CE requirements
How many CE hours do New Mexico insurance agents need?
New Mexico requires most licensees to complete 24 approved hours in each two-year compliance period. Title and bail-related licenses have separate totals.
Which New Mexico CE requirement applies to me?
New Mexico CE requirements by license
| New Mexico license type | Total CE | Required category or format |
|---|---|---|
| Resident producer or adjuster | 24 hours / 2 years | 3 ethics + at least 3 classroom/live-interactive |
| Title insurance licensee | 10 hours / 2 years | Title courses; 3 escrow-fund hours that may also satisfy ethics |
| Limited surety, property bondsman, solicitor, or bail-bond solicitor | 14 hours / 2 years | Bail-bonds law and related regulation; 3 ethics |
A producer with multiple ordinary lines completes one 24-hour requirement. Courses must cover one or more kinds of insurance for which the producer is licensed.
Who is exempt from New Mexico CE?
Exemptions include specified limited licenses, licensees continuously licensed by New Mexico for at least 25 years without a lapse longer than 90 days, persons licensed solely to receive renewal residuals without transacting insurance, fraternal-benefit-society agents, and qualifying reciprocal nonresidents.

Deadline and renewal cycle
When is New Mexico insurance CE due?
Complete and report all New Mexico CE before license renewal. The compliance period is the time between issuance or the last renewal and the current expiration date.
The renewal window opens 90 days before expiration.
A 30-day late-renewal grace period and a later reinstatement period may involve extra fees, but they do not extend authority to transact insurance after expiration.
An extension or waiver for illness, disability, military deployment, or circumstances beyond the licensee’s control must be requested before the compliance period ends.

1. Match the course number, completion date, license number or NPN, and credit category to the completion certificate.
2. Ask the provider to confirm the roster submission and correct a missing or rejected completion.
3. Recheck the official transcript. Contact the licensing authority if an accepted completion remains missing or incorrect.

Credits and eligibility
What courses count toward New Mexico insurance CE?
New Mexico CE credit is awarded only for a state-approved course completed through a state-approved provider. The course must match the required credit category and applicable license period.
- Can I repeat a New Mexico course for credit?
- No. New Mexico awards no additional credit for completing the same approved course more than once in a compliance period.
- Can New Mexico CE hours carry over?
- No. New Mexico does not carry excess credit hours into the next compliance period.
- Must a course be approved before enrollment?
- Yes. New Mexico awards credit only for a course approved by the CE committee before the licensee enrolls.
- Which completion date determines the period?
- New Mexico applies credit according to the date the course is completed, not the later date the provider reports it.
- Do all 24 hours qualify as self-study?
- No. At least 3 hours in each compliance period must be classroom or another format that permits live interaction with an instructor.

Course format
Can New Mexico insurance CE be completed online?
New Mexico accepts approved online and correspondence courses, but at least 3 hours each period must allow live instructor interaction. Self-study does not satisfy that live-interactive minimum.
Online self-study
Complete the approved course and required test or written work. These hours may count toward the total but not the 3-hour live-interactive minimum.
Classroom or live webinar
Use a format with real-time instructor interaction. At least 3 hours in every compliance period must use this type of instruction.
Completion verification
Credit requires monitored attendance and participation or a test or other written work showing understanding of the material.
A recorded presentation without live instructor interaction is not enough for the 3-hour live requirement. Confirm how the state categorizes the course before enrolling.

Product-specific training

| Long-term care | Producers selling LTC insurance | 8 initial hours; 4 hours each compliance period Partnership sellers need Partnership content within the applicable course. |
| Flood insurance | Adjusters and producers transacting flood insurance | 4 initial hours New Mexico’s rule states 4 hours; do not substitute another state’s 3-hour presentation of the federal minimum. |
| Stop-loss insurance | Producers transacting stop-loss insurance | 8 initial hours Complete specific stop-loss training before conducting this business. |
A product-training course counts toward ordinary CE only when it also carries the applicable state CE approval. Retain the completion certificate for insurer verification.
