Texas CE requirements
How many CE hours do Texas insurance agents need?
Texas resident producers with the commonly held life, accident and health, property, casualty, personal lines, and adjuster licenses generally complete 24 approved hours during each two-year license term. Three of those hours must be ethics, and at least 12 hours must use a classroom or classroom-equivalent format.
Which Texas CE requirement applies to me?
Texas CE requirements by license
| Texas resident license | Total CE | Required category or format |
|---|---|---|
| General Lines – Life, Accident, Health and HMO | 24 hours | 3 ethics; at least 12 classroom/classroom-equivalent |
| General Lines – Property and Casualty | 24 hours | 3 ethics; at least 12 classroom/classroom-equivalent |
| Life agent or Personal Lines Property and Casualty | 24 hours | 3 ethics; at least 12 classroom/classroom-equivalent |
| Adjuster, public adjuster, or managing general agent | 24 hours | 3 ethics; at least 12 classroom/classroom-equivalent |
| County mutual, life under $25,000, or listed limited line | 10 hours | 3 ethics |
If you hold more than one Texas license, a completion can apply to every license active on the completion date. Different license terms can still leave a gap, so compare the dates and requirements for each license on your official record.
Who may qualify for a Texas CE exemption?
A Texas resident who has held a qualifying license continuously for at least 20 years may request a CE exemption through Sircon after maintaining compliance for every license term. The exemption is not automatic, and product-specific annuity, long-term care, or flood training can still apply.

Deadline and review cycle
When is Texas insurance CE due?
Complete all required CE before your license expires. Most Texas insurance licenses renew every two years, with the expiration aligned to the licensee’s birth month.
TDI recommends completing education about 30 days early so providers have time to report and you have time to correct missing or misclassified credit.
Texas does not treat the period after expiration as a free CE grace period. A deficiency can trigger a $50-per-hour fine, up to $500 per license. A producer generally has 90 days after expiration to cure the deficiency and pay the fine before the license becomes inactive.

Official record
How do I check my Texas CE transcript or status?
Use the official Texas/Sircon record to confirm the license term, total posted hours, ethics credit, and classroom-equivalent hours. A course certificate is important evidence, but the state record is the compliance record to verify before renewal.
-
1
Correct license and period
Confirm the active license record, CE period, and compliance or review date.
-
2
Total posted credit
Compare the posted hours with your requirement after any valid exemption, reduction, or carryover.
-
3
Required categories
Check ethics, law update, flood, delivery method, or product-specific categories separately.
-
4
Completion history
Look for missing courses, duplicate or zero credit, incorrect dates, and misclassified completions.
What should I do if completed credit is missing?
Reporting timing. Texas-approved providers report completed credit to the state. Noble reports course completions immediately, but state processing can still affect when a completion appears.
1. Confirm the name, Texas license number, course title, completion date, and delivery method on your certificate.
2. Check whether the course is posted as classroom-equivalent or self-study; Texas requires at least half of the total in classroom or classroom-equivalent format.
3. Contact the provider with your certificate and identifying details if a completion is missing or misclassified.
4. Recheck the official transcript before renewing, and keep certificates for at least four years.

Credits and eligibility
What courses count toward Texas insurance CE?
Texas CE credit is awarded only for a state-approved course completed through a state-approved provider. The course must match the required credit category and applicable license period.
- Can I repeat a course?
- No. Texas awards CE credit only once for the same course during a license term. Repeating it in that term does not earn additional credit.
- Can extra hours carry over?
- No. Texas requires the full CE requirement to be completed during each license term. Excess hours do not carry to the next term.
- How much must be classroom-equivalent?
- At least 50% of the required CE hours must be completed through classroom or classroom-equivalent courses. For a 24-hour requirement, this equals 12 hours.
- Which completion date counts?
- The course completion date determines the license term in which credit applies. The date the course appears on the transcript does not change the applicable term.
- Do I need separate hours for multiple licenses?
- No. One approved course completion may satisfy CE for each Texas license active on the completion date. Separate expiration dates and product-specific training requirements must still be satisfied.

Course format
Can Texas insurance CE be completed online?
Yes. Texas CE may be completed online, but the approved delivery method matters. Noble offers both classroom-equivalent courses and self-study courses so you can satisfy the format mix shown on your transcript.
Classroom-equivalent: no final exam
Noble’s classroom-equivalent courses use periodic study questions throughout the course instead of a separate final examination. This is the simplest route for the required classroom-equivalent portion.
Self-study: open-book final exam
Self-study courses use a final exam. Noble’s Texas self-study exams are open book, require a 70% score, and allow retakes.
No Final Exam is a course-format benefit, not a waiver of education. You still complete the approved content and periodic knowledge checks, and the course still counts only in its approved category.

Product-specific training
What specialty training do Texas insurance agents need?
These requirements apply only when you sell, solicit, or negotiate the related product. They can count toward regular CE when completed as an approved course, but they do not replace ethics or classroom-equivalent rules.
| Training | Who needs it? | Hours and frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Annuity Best Interest | Producers selling annuities | 4 hours initially Then 8 hours of annuity-specific CE each license term |
| Long-Term Care Partnership | Producers selling LTC partnership products | 8 hours initially Then 4 hours each reporting period |
| NFIP Flood | Property and casualty producers selling federal flood insurance | 3 hours, one time Federal minimum training |
Texas updated its annuity guidance in 2026: after the initial Annuity Best Interest 4-hour certification, resident agents who sell annuities complete 8 hours of annuity-specific CE each term. Older pages that say 4 ongoing hours are no longer current.

- Repeating a course already completed during the same license term.
- Relying on a certificate without checking that the state record posted correctly.
- Using an outdated annuity rule that lists only 4 ongoing hours.
- Treating the post-expiration cure period as a penalty-free grace period.
