Utah CE requirements
How many CE hours do Utah insurance agents need?
Utah resident producers and adjusters other than title producers complete 24 approved hours during each two-year licensing period. Three hours must be ethics, and at least 12 hours must be classroom or classroom-equivalent.
Which Utah CE requirement applies to me?
Utah CE requirements by license
| Utah license type | Total CE | Required category or format |
|---|---|---|
| Resident producer or adjuster other than title | 24 hours / 2 years | 3 ethics; at least 12 classroom/classroom-equivalent |
| Resident title producer | 12 hours / 2 years | 3 ethics; at least 6 classroom/classroom-equivalent |
| Title producer licensed 20+ consecutive years | 6 hours / 2 years | 3 ethics |
| Limited-license producer | No ordinary CE | Maintain renewal and applicable product training |
For the standard 24-hour requirement, no more than 12 hours may come from courses provided by insurers. The comparable cap for a 12-hour title requirement is 6 hours.
Which Utah CE exemptions require Department approval?
Utah lists possible relief for military service, designated volunteer service, long-term medical disability, and other extenuating circumstances. A producer first licensed before December 31, 1988 or maintaining specified professional designations may also qualify. Document the exemption with the Department before relying on it.

Deadline and renewal cycle
When is Utah insurance CE due?
Complete all required Utah CE and allow it to post before renewing by the last day of the birth month in the applicable two-year cycle.
An individual’s first birth-month renewal may fall 24 to 35 months after initial issuance; later renewals occur every two years.
Electronic renewal remains available until 10 p.m. Mountain time on the expiration date.
A renewal is rejected when required CE has not been completed and posted by the provider.

Official record
How do I check my Utah CE transcript or status?
Use the Utah Sircon record to verify the licensing period, total hours, ethics hours, classroom-equivalent hours, insurer-provided hours, and renewal eligibility.
-
1
Correct license and period
Confirm the active license record, CE period, and compliance or review date.
-
2
Total posted credit
Compare the posted hours with your requirement after any valid exemption, reduction, or carryover.
-
3
Required categories
Check ethics, law update, flood, delivery method, or product-specific categories separately.
-
4
Completion history
Look for missing courses, duplicate or zero credit, incorrect dates, and misclassified completions.
What should I do if completed credit is missing?
Reporting timing. The approved provider reports Utah CE. Every required completion must be posted before the renewal can be processed, so leave time for reporting.
1. Match the course number, completion date, license number or NPN, and credit category to the completion certificate.
2. Ask the provider to confirm the roster submission and correct a missing or rejected completion.
3. Recheck the official transcript. Contact the licensing authority if an accepted completion remains missing or incorrect.
Credits and eligibility
What courses count toward Utah insurance CE?
Utah CE credit is awarded only for a state-approved course completed through a state-approved provider. The course must match the required credit category and applicable license period.
- Can Utah CE hours carry over?
- No. Hours above the renewal requirement may not be carried into or applied to a later licensing period.
- Can I repeat a Utah CE course for credit?
- Yes, but not more than once during the same license continuation period.
- How much Utah CE must be classroom-equivalent?
- At least half of the total must be classroom or classroom-equivalent. This is 12 of 24 hours for most producers and 6 of 12 hours for title producers.
- How many hours may come from insurer-provided courses?
- No more than half of the required total may come from one or more insurers.
- When do credits begin counting toward the next Utah period?
- Credits begin counting for the next period on the day after the prior expiration or renewal date. Early renewal does not move that start date forward.

Course format
Can Utah insurance CE be completed online?
Utah accepts approved online courses, but instruction method controls the classroom-equivalent calculation. At least half of the requirement must be classroom or classroom-equivalent.
Classroom-equivalent online
A timed approved course can satisfy the classroom-equivalent portion even when completed remotely.
Self-study
Complete the approved material and examination. Self-study can supply no more than half of the total requirement.
Live classroom or webinar
Attend for the full approved session and satisfy attendance and participation controls.
Check the Sircon instruction-method field before buying. Online delivery alone does not establish classroom-equivalent credit.

Product-specific training
What specialty training do Utah insurance agents need?
Product-specific training applies only to the relevant business. Complete initial training before selling the product and track recurring training separately.
| Training | Who needs it? | Hours and frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Annuity best interest | Producers selling annuities | 4 credits, one time Complete the current approved course before annuity sales; transition rules applied to producers trained before July 1, 2024. |
| Long-term care | Producers selling long-term care insurance | No separate Utah hour mandate Utah repealed the former statutory producer-training requirement effective May 6, 2026; insurer product training may still apply. |
| NFIP flood | Property producers selling federal flood insurance | 3 hours, one time Complete the Utah/federal flood requirement before selling NFIP coverage. |
Utah’s former 3-hour initial and recurring long-term-care producer training statute was removed in 2026. Do not rely on older pages that still list it as a current state mandate.

Common questions
Utah insurance continuing education FAQ
Does completing Utah CE renew my license?
No. CE completion and license renewal are separate. Verify reported compliance, submit the required renewal, and confirm active status.
Where can I find Noble’s Utah CE courses?
Use the Utah course catalog linked on this page. Match course approvals and categories to the official CE record before purchasing.
Should I rely on purchased course hours or the official transcript?
Use the official transcript. Purchased, incomplete, failed, unreported, or ineligible courses do not establish CE compliance.
How many Utah insurance CE hours are required?
Most resident producers and adjusters need 24 hours every two years, including 3 ethics hours and at least 12 classroom or classroom-equivalent hours.
Does Utah still require separate long-term-care producer training?
No separate Utah hour mandate remains. The former statutory requirement was removed effective May 6, 2026, although insurer product training can still apply.
